The Mobility Observatory
The Mobility Observatory is designed to support and monitor the impacts of sustainable urban mobility planning in Slovenia. It collects, manages and presents data from various sources on the transport system, its users, and quality of life.
It provides regularly updated data on Slovenia’s transport system, including private car ownership, traffic accident statistics, and public transport accessibility at local, regional, national, and EU levels. In addition to statistical information, the Mobility Observatory offers expert analysis and commentary to provide deeper insights on mobility trends in the country, its regions and its towns and cities.
The Mobility Observatory is designed to support the implementation of the Sustainable Mobility Planning Act, encourage evidence-based decision-making, and raise awareness of mobility trends among professionals, policymakers, and the public. By doing so, it aims to contribute to a paradigm shift in transport planning that will deliver greater accessibility and improved quality of life.
Developed by the Transformative Transport Planning Research Group at the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, the Mobility Observatory was created with the support of the CARE4CLIMATE project.
Data sources include official institutions such as the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, Eurostat, the Slovenian Police, the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and others. All data is either publicly accessible or used with permission, with sources clearly cited on the portal.
Methodology: The Mobility Observatory is the result of a comprehensive review, selection, and integration of mobility data in Slovenia. Data are collected from reliable sources across all spatial levels and cover both the current situation and links to its underlying causes. The data ensure balanced representation across three key dimensions: users, quality of life, and the transport system. The Mobility Observatory adopts a broad perspective that includes indirect impacts of mobility on well-being such as, for example, links between demographic structure and transport policy or between motorisation and quality of life.
